Now its out there in public that the Federal Reserve in the US is a private bank. (If this is news to you then you may want to have a look here from Senatar Ron Paul). I decided that I wanted to investigate as to what the status of the Federal Reserve in Australia is.

Did you know the Federal Reserve in the US is the 6th central bank that they had - the others were removed by the US government of the time. Hmm

The US Constitution and a high value detainee[s]

I like to read source texts that are talked often but not read. Some of these I have read include the religious text like bible, the qaran and now I have moved on to read the US constitution and bill of rights- full text here.

Like my other experiences it was quite enlightening and really makes you question the "consensus opinion" when so many people who have an opinion about it have never read it. It lays down a number of limitations of government powers. The current US Government ignores parts of the constitution even though it is supposed to be bound by it. Recently the government has been passing bills to gain more government power. Below is an example of yet another bill that moves power to the Government and out of the hands of the citizens.

Why is the national security community treating the "Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010," introduced by Sens. John McCain and Joseph Lieberman on Thursday as a standard proposal, as a simple response to the administration's choices in the aftermath of the Christmas Day bombing attempt? A close reading of the bill suggests it would allow the U.S. military to detain U.S. citizens without trial indefinitely in the U.S. based on suspected activity. Read the bill here, and then read the summarized points after the jump.

According to the summary, the bill sets out a comprehensive policy for the detention, interrogation and trial of suspected enemy belligerents who are believed to have engaged in hostilities against the United States by requiring these individuals to be held in military custody, interrogated for their intelligence value and not provided with a Miranda warning.

(There is no distinction between U.S. persons--visa holders or citizens--and non-U.S. persons.)

It would require these "belligerents" to be coded as "high-value detainee[s]" to be held in military custody and interrogated for their intelligence value by a High-Value Detainee Interrogation Team established by the president. (The H.I.G., of course, was established to bring a sophisticated interrogation capacity to the federal justice system.)

Any suspected unprivileged enemy belligerents considered a "high-value detainee" shall not be provided with a Miranda warning.

The bill asks the President to determine criteria for designating an individual as a "high-value detainee" if he/she: (1) poses a threat of an attack on civilians or civilian facilities within the U.S. or U.S. facilities abroad; (2) poses a threat to U.S. military personnel or U.S. military facilities; (3) potential intelligence value; (4) is a member of al Qaeda or a terrorist group affiliated with al Qaeda or (5) such other matters as the President considers appropriate. The President must submit the regulations and guidance to the appropriate committees of Congress no later than 60 days after enactment.

To the extent possible, the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Team must make a preliminary determination whether the detainee is an unprivileged enemy belligerent within 48 hours of taking detainee into custody.

The High-Value Detainee Interrogation Team must submit its determination to the Secretary of Defense and the Attorney General after consultation with the Director of National Intelligence, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. The Secretary of Defense and the Attorney General make a final determination and report the determination to the President and the appropriate committees of Congress. In the case of any disagreement between the Secretary of Defense and the Attorney General, the President will make the determination.

Note that the president himself doesn't get to make the call.

Holiday in Wonderland (The Grampians)

I went away camping this weekend in the Grampians

On the way we hired a 4wd (we wanted more space than a Hyundi getz) and this was all they had. I have to say it is a really silly vehicle to hire. It uses loads of gas and is not that big inside is uncomfortable to drive and you loose your bond on the vehicle if it gets so much as scratched (so no off-roading). Why do people hire these?

It rained friday night and kept us both up all night. On Saturday we bought ear plugs which meant we slept well on Saturday.

Anyway we also hit a number of bird sized moths on the way. Below is a picture of the vehicle and a moth I prized from the bumper.

Can you be just as strong being Vegan?

There are lots of websites out there that claim that it is easy for vegans to be strong and healthy. This is a lie. It actually requires a bit of thought and planning.

On my research it looks like it is possible to be pretty strong and health being vegan although it takes more thought. There have been a few bodybuilders in the past that have been vegan including Robie Hazely. Below is a video of successful vegan sports people

Most vegan body builders I've seen on my browse around the internet are not that big. It is a bit hard to compare though as I would expect most vegan bodybuilders wouldn't take steroids as steroids contain meat products. This guy was the biggest on the video he's called Andreas Cahling from Sweeden

My diet is almost vegetarian and I am concerned that I may be lacking enough protein and nutrition to keep me strong and healthy.

If you are vegetarian you are more at risk of deficiencies caused by a lack of fats and B12 and can find it hard to put on muscle (because its not a straight forward as just eating a ton of eggs and chicken) the 2 articles below are from vegan bodybuilders.

I have just got back from the cathedral ranges National Park. We bought a new canvas tent. The tent was good and easy to put up although the bag has ripped allready hmm.

Cathedral Ranges national Park last year 98% of it was burnt by the fire.

We were close to the town of Taggerty which had an exhibition and a sausage sizzle on the fire from the previous year which included small books written by the survivors. We went to the town of Alexandra (Which has a statue of Princess Alexandra of Denmark shipped from the UK).

We also went to Marysville - a town that was burnt down in last years fire. We both found it quite sombre but also positive as the town is starting to be rebuilt. (Details here )

Haiti Earthquake

It is true that the US reaction to the Haiti earthquake has been strange and amounted to a military takeover. There have also been a number of earthquakes at strategically sensitive areas recently . So I did a bit of digging.

It didn't take me long to find news comming from countries unfriendly to the US. The claim is that the Haiti earthquake was caused by the US Navy using a new weapon called HAARP.

Hugo Chavez from Venezuala went as far as accusing the US of trialing this weapon on Haiti so it can be used on Iran later.

So the key questions are

1. Could such a weapon be built?
2. If it was built would the US use it?

In answer to the first question

The an official on the US State department claims that it would be likely that other countries have such a weapon.

Here's the exchange, taken verbatim from the transcript of Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen posted on the Defense Department's Website:

"Q: Let me ask you specifically about last week's scare here in Washington, and what we might have learned from how prepared we are to deal with that (inaudible), at B'nai Brith.

A: Well, it points out the nature of the threat. It turned out to be a false threat under the circumstances. But as we've learned in the intelligence community, we had something called -- and we have James Woolsey here to perhaps even address this question about phantom moles. The mere fear that there is a mole within an agency can set off a chain reaction and a hunt for that particular mole which can paralyze the agency for weeks and months and years even, in a search. The same thing is true about just the false scare of a threat of using some kind of a chemical weapon or a biological one. There are some reports, for example, that some countries have been trying to construct something like an Ebola Virus, and that would be a very dangerous phenomenon, to say the least. Alvin Toeffler has written about this in terms of some scientists in their laboratories trying to devise certain types of pathogens that would be ethnic specific so that they could just eliminate certain ethnic groups and races; and others are designing some sort of engineering, some sort of insects that can destroy specific crops. Others are engaging even in an eco- type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves.

So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations. It's real, and that's the reason why we have to intensify our efforts, and that's why this is so important."

In answer to the question "If it was built would the US use it?" well I'm not sure. But I know is that it's pretty scary and I think the US government is pretty out of control right now. hmmm.

Below is a theory as to why Haiti was taken over. The theory is that Venezuela signed a deal with China to supply oil to China at the end of the year. The reason Haiti was occupied was so Venezuela could be blockaded to prevent China from getting the oil hmm interesting. I need to research this.

I have just spent a little time looking into the "drill" and it looks like it really did happen.

Hyperinflation in the US its likelihood and worldwide impacts

It's a bit depressing but more people are now talking about the US and it's likelyhood for having huge inflation.

Ron Paul (video above) is my favourite US politition (I only really like him and Ralph Nadar). He serves on the House Financial Services Committee, the International Relations committee, and the Joint Economic Committee and on the Financial Services Committee, Rep. Paul serves as the vice-chairman of the Oversight and Investigations subcommittee.

There is another interesting article about the fed here all in all the more I understand about the subject the bleaker it looks.

4 final days in Queenstown

My mum and dad left to go to Auckland and then back to the UK. It was lovely and we will miss them both.Weather in New Zealand seems to be getting a bit better. Last week broke records for being the wettest for this time of year - at the same time the UK is the coldest and Melbourne is the hottest - weird.

We now have a fancy apartment in Queensland - lovely. (Below is what it looks like in ski season)

Been enjoying the TV particularity like the @7o'clock which is quite entertaining. We walked up the hill overlooking Queenstown where the gondola (above) goes up and then did the luge - below

The luge looks a bit tame but it is actually pretty cool.
Then next day we went to the nearby town of Arrowtown and old gold mining town (Queenstown and the surrounding towns we ,like a number of rural Melbourne towns built on gold). It is also the home of one of the first hydroelectric plants in the world - build to provide power for the mines and the town.

Today our final day in Queenstown we will be going on a jet boat around the lake. and then we will drive up some mountains to try to see the tops of some clouds

The dangers of Cellphones

After the HAARP post I was doing some more digging into Dr Nick Beggich who introduced the movie about HAARP. I found that his father was a democratic senator who died under suspicious circumstances and he also had another video about the dangers of mobile phones which I actually found quite credible where he talked about Dr George Carlo a scientist employed by lobbyists to the mobile phone industry.

I got into a discussion with my mum and dad the other day and it got me hunting for answers

Painfull eyes continued

My eye has been giving me grief again. I went to see a specialist about three months ago and he told me I have a "corneal erosion". Basically it like a scab on my eye that keeps sticking to my eyelid and slows dow the repair. Using thick eye lubricant on my eye before I go to bed helps although sleeping on my right side (as it is my left eye with teh erosion) it has been playing up recently and I was doing a bit of research looking into eye health and this is what I found
"Taking a vigorous walk for at least a half hour can temporarily reduce discomfort and pressure in the eyes."

What is food acid?

I have been on a mini mission this last 5 months. Everytime I have been at a supermarket I have been looking for decent pickled onions and pickled beetroot. It is hard to find in Melbourne.

I have too major gripes with the pickles I have come accross.

1. They ask to be refridgerated after opening because .. (point 2) They do not contain any vinegar! (Instead sugar water and food acid)

I thought the whole point of pickling was to preserve said food and I also niavly expected pickled onions or beatroot to contain vinegar. Last week picked my own. I'd reccomend this as it only took me about half an hour to make 6 jars. (below is one)

Food acid is in so much stuff.

For instance it is in the "peters" lemon "Icy pole". I was eating one of these a while back and read the label.

"All Natrual ingredients" then the ingredients read
on the Nestle website it says

What's in an icy pole then?
"Water, sugar, food acid, natural colouring, natural flavouring"

I had two questions about this
1. How is "food acid" natural
2. How can a lemon icy pole with all natural ingredients contain no lemon???? Was lemon juice one of the "natural flavourings" on the ingredient list?

I called the nestle number on the packet to ask for more details. They could not tell me what food acid was. When I asked what was the "natural flavourings" I was told that this was a trade secret and if other companies knew then they would be at a competitive disadvantage. So it doesn't take an Einstein to work out that these lemon icy poles have never been anywhere near a lemon.

Snow Leopard $30 not well spent

I have just had to turn off my router for the second time this morning because the wifi has not worked reliably since I upgraded to snow leopard on my macbookpro.

Excel was routinely crashing my laptop too. I had to fix that - what a pain. Snow leopard looks the same as previous and at the moment is more unreliable.

ALSO something I am really annoyed with is that the multi-touch touchpad which I got the distinct impression would now work with 4 finger gestures is not compatible with my laptop. hmm Well I have 1 finger gesture of my own.

Energy Efficient light globes are harmful

Clare bought home 2 new light globes for the bedroom.

She could only buy the energy efficient light globes. I have long suspected that the claims made for energy efficient light globes is nonsense so armed with google I did a bit of research

These bulbs are much more energy and resource intensive to manufacture and they also contain mercury making them difficult to dispose of properly.

Use less electricity

They do use less electricity however they are basically using the same technology as old fashioned fluorescent strip lights and they share the efficiency profile of these. If you turn these lights and never turn them off they use about a quarter of the energy of a conventional bulb. However if you turn your lights on and off frequently (like we do) then the efficiency goes right down because these bulbs (just like flurescent strip lights are a lot less efficient when being turned on and off).

As good as exsting light globes

I hate the light from these (the wave spectra is different). They also take a while to get to full brightness. They have also been shown to cause epilepsy and they can buzz. The EPA take the safety and disposal of these pretty seriously if you break one you need to evacuate the room for 15 minutes and dispose of the bulb in a glass jar

Last Longer

I suspect if you have a modern house with electrics then they would last longer but I frequently have these (expensive) babies blow on me. Also as they get older they get less bright. The life is also dramatically shortened by turning them on and off.

NSW, Victoria Lord Howe Island and NZ were on Tsunami alert yesterday! I watched the unfolding events using tweetdeck - it was fascinating!

I don't think the "recycled water" in London is quite the same as the "recycled water" they are reccomedning elsewhe. They have finished the new house on our street. I think the aluminum painted balcony on the front is there so the house fits in to the surroundings.

Melbourne is a pain in the arse

Loads of things happen every day and its really hard to find out what's going on. Most of the websites about what is going on in melbourne are pretty useless. I swear pople that organise events and agrigate information about melbourne events take a pervers please in making it really difficlut to work out whats going on where.

I was in bed last night and the earth moved. The windows rattled and my bed shook. I got out of bed to make sure something wasn't causing the house to shake. I then went back to bed and heard on the radio that there had been an earthquake!

Wilst looking at self massage on youtube I thought I should open the search up to "self healing". As many of you know I try to look after my qi and this is a movie about working with the qi (or life force as seen by toaists).

It looks pretty interesting qi is lifeforce and think gong is breathing. I guess it's a bit like the study of Pranayama (in yoga)

Self Neck and shoulder massage

I thought maybe I should see what there is out there that I can do myself for myself and there is actually quite a bit

THIS IS AWSOME!! I just did it - bloody amazing. This is a complete massage I got pretty deep - I think I can sort myself out with this one.

He did another one too on face excersizes that was nice.

I also did this one but it wasn't as good as the ones above

I haven't done these but they looked interesting for different reasons

This is a meditation / self massage especially for a migrane (I found it a bit boring - maybe I'll try at again sometime)

I found this one less than convincing basically tap yourself in various places whilst saying "even if I have a migraine headache I fully accept me the way I am" . hmmm

Neck and Shoulder massage

I get headaches / migranes (behind the right eye) from time to time.

These are mainly due to tension in the neck and I generally sorted out by a session with my chiropracter / kinesiologist. He is very good but costs me money. This weekend I have been getting information with the hope that I can gain the skills to give my partner a massage in the hope that she will return the favor and fix my headache without the cost.

I am building a very small permaculture garden

Permaculture comes from "permanent agriculture" it is a type of gardening where you work to create an environment to allow a successfull ecosystem to develope and manage itself.

It requires careful planning and a lot of work upfront but after a few years in will create a garden that will be very productive and require little effort to work.

I have made my first step...

I am growing tomatoes and basil. These two plants work very well together the basil deters a number of tomato pests and encourages a number of bugs that also deter tomato pests. Basil also is said to improve the flavour of tomato too.

Now I am an Australian citizen I was keen to take my responsibilities seriously.

On Saturday I voted in the election for Moreland. (Brunswick)

I was going though the leaflets by the voting building. There were 2 green 1 socialist alliance and 3 labour candidates (no liberal). As I was going through them one of the guys handing out leaflets asked me if I had any questions. I asked him lots of stuff and eventually he said he couldn't help so he called the candidate and I spoke to him on the phone - It was great!

I then spoke to another candidate (who was there in person) called Christopher Anderson (see his bog)

He was a really nice guy that I felt genuinely wanted to improve things. It was really good of them both to take the time to go through the issues.

Recycling is a waste of time

I have always thought that recycling is absolute nonsense.

In the UK you will find many pre WW2 inner city houses with a small front garden. On closer inspection you can see that they are wrought iron shafts comming out of the wall that have been cut off at the level of the wall. The shafts used to form a fence - a bit like the picture below, only the wall were generally a bit higher

What has this got to do with recycling?

The reason the fences were cut down was so the could be re-cycled to make planes and tanks in the second world war. There is a location in scotland filled with these posts. There were not used but if made people feel like they were doing there bit.

Even if you take the view that the stuff that goes in the recycled bin is being recycled 100% (which is not case - not even close then recycleing is just working on the final product.The site below explains what I mean

I am now a proud owner of an Australian passport. I was presented this along with a goodie bag and a native plant "Australian bottlebrush" in July.

Last week I set my plant free in near a creek so it flourish. I choose not to plant in my house garden but somewhere with more space where I can go to in times of reflection. So I choose to plant it near the Merri Creek in Melbourne. Below is the documentation of the ceremony

Both Clare and I have the flu - no real flu. Not a bad cold.

I bloody hate that no-one ever takes time off with a cold anymore it just devalues how horrible flu can be. On Friday I just put a spiral bound note book by my bed so I can write ideas as they come to me. This has been really handy recently as I have had a bit of trouble sleeping and had some good ideas in my rather sick haze of the night.

2. Continuing with my Memory club - Me and another nice chap from Melbourne are meeting every fortnight to learn advanced memory techniques. Currently I trying to use these to memorize a child's book.

3. Continuing with my Finance club - I will be presenting my implimentation of David Allen's "Getting Things Done"

4. Hoping to start a new club with a friend based on the 4 hour work week by Tim Ferris. (a book about outsourcing and having the perfect lifestyle by a very bright guy).I was on youtube the other day and found Tim Ferris he's all over it.

5. Setting up a DIY super fund with a friend of mine (it is now established we just need to roll it over and start buying shares). (See my other blog Blog)

6. Jimmy Yukka and his Amazing Band been working on some plans and have a few extra acts that have expressed an enthusiasm to work with us. We are trying to have a band meeting tomorrow where we can make some plans for world domination. I have lots of ideas.
